Every morning I read the news and every day the Global Economy becomes more of a puzzle than the day before. Have you ever been putting a puzzle together just to come to the end and realize one piece is missing!? That’s what reading up on the economy is like for me. It seems I always get to the point where I’m about to finish the puzzle and have all the pieces come together, just to realize I’m stumped… there’s one bit of information that just doesn’t add up. If you just had that one piece then everything would come together. So like a puzzle, with constant conflicting reports on where the U.S. and global economy stands, I’m not sure if or when I’ll fully understand the state of our economy.
One day I will read in the news how the economy is on the rise, yet it may be a slow and determined climb to decrease the deficit, it’s still leading to once again having a thriving economy. Then the next day I read of some company firing thousands of people or of a corporation on its way to financial ruin. Then wait, the stock markets are on the rise, oh no wait sorry… now the stock points are dropping. Does anyone really know where the economy currently stands?
I also usually find a news piece detailing how the SEC, the CFTC, the Federal Reserve, and etc. has a plan (there’s always a plan, right?) on how to improve our global economy. These plans consist of regulations and new rules that will improve the numerous global financial systems’ imperfections. These plans are then countered by every banker or investor under the sun. They claim that the regulations come on to fast, or cut out an important financial system component, or worse- they aren’t thoroughly thought out and the bankers claim the new proposed regulation will just lead to a downward spiral.
With so many conflicting positions it’s hard to grasp where any economy currently stands. Should we keep on trying with these regulations, plans and new technology? Should we try to improve on what we have? Or is it time to come up with a new system?
